Temple Beth Shalom is
proud to be an original member of the group of temples and synagogues
to sponsor a "Shabbat Across America" celebration each spring.
This great program which was originally conceived through the National Jewish Outreach Program is a family shabbat that attempts to
unite the entire country of Jewish communities in a single day event of
shabbat observance. Through this process, we not only teach
how
to celebrate Shabbat and discuss Shabbat customs, but, we also unite as
a people so that we are all celebrating at the same time.
This
event has since become a regular fixture on the temple calendar.
The observance consists of one of our great "pot-luck"
dinners
which is preceded by a short observance of Shabbat blessings.
We
then enjoy each others company and usually have a speaker (often the
Rabbi) who discusses Shabbat customs and laws. We end by
completing the observances with the after dinner blessings and, of
course, more socializing. It is a great opportunity to be
with some
of your best friends and their families, learn about Shabbat, and
generally have a great time!
