The Preschool class meets monthly for children 3.5 - 4 years old. Please note all children must be toilet trained. This monthly class is a wonderful introduction to Judaism for children. The Kindergarten class meets weekly on Sunday mornings for children ages 4 – 5 years. The Preschool students will join with the Kindergarten class monthly making many new friends. The classes are filled with song and spirit the children learn about the Jewish holidays, their traditions, and significant symbols. Games, crafts, and creative projects accompany each session. The children are taught the importance of Tzedakah and Mitzvot and how these are embedded not only in our culture but in our Jewish obligation. The children also learn about the Synagogue through different activities. Hebrew letter recognition and familiar prayers and blessings are introduced as well as Bible stories. This year we will focus on celebrating Shabbat in the home. Families will be able to sign up to bring home the Shabbat Bag. (Watch for more information).
Pre-K / K Class Notes
Sunday, October 16th
- Our morning began with learning about Simchat Torah and making our own Simchat Torah Flags to use Wednesday evening. I told the children that it is a fun service with lots of marching with Torahs and flags.
- We went out to the sukkah. We hung the leaf decorations we made at our last class. Then, all the children had a chance to smell, touch and shake the lulav and etrog.
- Music with Taylor was lots of fun. She taught the children a number of Sukkot songs. With her enthusiasm and the rhythm instruments, the children had a blast.
- I hope to see you at services on Wednesday evening. Simchat Torah is a very family friendly service. We will finish reading the very end of the Torah and start again by reading the very beginning of the Torah. At this service, we also celebrate our newest Shalom School students, from Kindergarten through Grade 2. Consecration is a way of honoring our newest students. Those children will receive a small Torah, a certificate and a very special blessing from the Rabbi.
